Silencing the voices that make us Human

A well-known Japanese legend says that an invisible red thread, tied to the pinkies, unites those destined to meet. Pulling on that red thread, this work presents a series of images that explore different conceptions of destiny, all of them valid at some point in human existence, all of them destined to respond to the same need: to silence the voices that, at some point, begin a continuous, seemingly endless pounding.

The opportunities we seize, the ones we let pass, the decisions we make and the ones we never get around to executing, the dreams we pursue and those we give up on are undoubtedly triggers for this tortuous refrain. Perhaps there could be a mysterious, secret, and ancestral reason, almost divine, a reason that could explain everything and stop the noise. Perhaps destiny could be the answer, and its immovable, unalterable—inaccessible to human beings?—character could, so simply, trap the sound of voices within its threads.

The last image in the series asks us: What if there were another way to stop the hammering? What if we could destroy those mental shackles that guarantee silence and thereby fly further? Fly, perhaps, to where true freedom lies hidden?

“Silencing the Voices That Make Us Human” is an opportunity to reflect on how certain concepts, perhaps not just destiny, have been created with the sole purpose of curbing those voices that harm us from the depths of our being.
